This gene encodes a member of the RGS family of GTPasenactivating proteins that function in various signaling pathways bynaccelerating the deactivation of G proteins. This protein isnanchored to photoreceptor membranes in retinal cells andndeactivates G proteins in the rod and cone phototransductionncascades. Mutations in this gene result in bradyopsia. Multiplentranscript variants encoding different isoforms have been found fornthis gene.
