This gene encodes a DNA damage response protein. Thenencoded protein may play a role in G2/M checkpoint arrest vianmaintenance of inhibitory phosphorylation of cyclin-dependentnkinase 1. Mutations in this gene have been associated with primarynautosomal recessive microcephaly 1 and premature chromosomencondensation syndrome. Alternatively spliced transcript variantsnhave been described.
