The protein encoded by this gene is closely related tonSTAM, an adaptor protein involved in the downstream signaling ofncytokine receptors, both of which contain a SH3 domain and thenimmunoreceptor tyrosine-based activation motif (ITAM). Similar tonSTAM, this protein acts downstream of JAK kinases, and isnphosphorylated in response to cytokine stimulation. This proteinnand STAM thus are thought to exhibit compensatory effects on thensignaling pathway downstream of JAK kinases upon cytokinenstimulation.
