This gene encodes a member of the CATERPILLER family ofncytoplasmic proteins. The encoded protein, which contains annN-terminal pyrin domain, a NACHT domain, a NACHT-associated domain,nand a C-terminus leucine-rich repeat region, functions as annattenuating factor of inflammation by suppressing inflammatorynresponses in activated monocytes. Alternatively spliced transcriptnvariants encoding distinct isoforms have been described but thenfull-length nature of some of these has not been determined.
