The protein encoded by this gene is an enzyme thatncatalyzes the first step in the dolichol-linked oligosaccharidenpathway for glycoprotein biosynthesis. This enzyme belongs to thenglycosyltransferase family 4. This protein is an integral membranenprotein of the endoplasmic reticulum. The congenital disorder ofnglycosylation type Ij is caused by mutation in the gene encodingnthis enzyme.
