The product of this gene is a component of the nuclearnfactor of activated T cells DNA-binding transcription complex. Thisncomplex consists of at least two components: a preexistingncytosolic component that translocates to the nucleus upon T cellnreceptor (TCR) stimulation, and an inducible nuclear component.nProteins belonging to this family of transcription factors play ancentral role in inducible gene transcription during immunenresponse. The product of this gene is an inducible nuclearncomponent. It functions as a major molecular target for thenimmunosuppressive drugs such as cyclosporin A. Five transcriptnvariants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified for thisngene. Different isoforms of this protein may regulate induciblenexpression of different cytokine genes.
