This gene encodes mannosyl (alpha-1,6-)-glycoproteinnbeta-1,6-N-acetyl-glucosaminyltransferase, a glycosyltransferaseninvolved in the synthesis of protein-bound and lipid-boundnoligosaccharides. Alterations of the oligosaccharides on cellnsurface glycoproteins cause significant changes in the adhesive ornmigratory behavior of a cell. Increase in the encoded protein'snactivity may correlate with the progression of invasivenmalignancies.
