This gene encodes a protein that is involved in lysosomalnfunction. Mutations in this, as well as other neuronalnceroid-lipofuscinosis (CLN) genes, cause neurodegenerative diseasesncommonly known as Batten disease or collectively known as neuronalnceroid lipofuscinoses (NCLs). Many alternatively spliced transcriptnvariants have been found for this gene.
