This gene encodes an endoplasmic reticulum associatednprotein that is involved in glycosylphosphatidylinositoln(GPI)-anchor biosynthesis. The GPI anchor is a glycolipid found onnmany blood cells and which serves to anchor proteins to the cellnsurface. The protein encoded by this gene is a subunit of the GPInN-acetylglucosaminyl (GlcNAc) transferase that transfers GlcNAc tonphosphatidylinositol (PI) on the cytoplasmic side of thenendoplasmic reticulum.
