This gene is located in the surfeit gene cluster, a groupnof very tightly linked housekeeping genes that do not sharensequence similarity. The gene is oriented in a head-to-head fashionnwith RPL7A (SURF3) and the two genes share a bidirectionalnpromoter. The encoded proteins are localized to the cytoplasm. Twonalternative transcript variants encoding different isoforms havenbeen identified for this gene.
