The protein encoded by this gene is a member of thenserine/arginine (SR)-rich family of pre-mRNA splicing factors,nwhich constitute part of the spliceosome. Each of these factorsncontains an RNA recognition motif (RRM) for binding RNA and an RSndomain for binding other proteins. The RS domain is rich in serinenand arginine residues and facilitates interaction between differentnSR splicing factors. In addition to being critical for mRNAnsplicing, the SR proteins have also been shown to be involved innmRNA export from the nucleus and in translation. Two transcriptnvariants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
