This gene is a member of the visinin/recoverin subfamilynof neuronal calcium sensor proteins. The encoded protein isnstrongly expressed in granule cells of the cerebellum where itnassociates with membranes in a calcium-dependent manner andnmodulates intracellular signaling pathways of the central nervousnsystem by directly or indirectly regulating the activity ofnadenylyl cyclase. Alternatively spliced transcript variants havenbeen observed, but their full-length nature has not beenndetermined.
