This gene contains long CAG trinucleotide repeats codingnconsecutive glutamine residues. The gene product may functions as antranscription factor, with a potential role in the regulation ofnneurodevelopment or neuroplasticity. The protein appears to bindnand regulate the promoters of MMP1, MMP3, MMP7 and COL1A1. Studiesnin mouse suggest that nuclear matrix transcription factorsn(NP/NMP4) may be part of a general mechanical pathway that couplesncell construction and function during extracellular matrixnremodeling. Multiple transcript variants encoding several isoformsnhave been found for this gene.
