This gene encodes a member of the nucleoporin family. Thenprotein is localized to the nuclear rim and is an essentialncomponent of the nuclear pore complex (NPC). All molecules enteringnor leaving the nucleus either diffuse through or are activelyntransported by the NPC. Alternate transcriptional splice variantsnof this gene have been observed but have not been thoroughlyncharacterized.
