The protein encoded by this gene is a member of thenSWI/SNF family of proteins. Members of this family have helicasenand ATPase activities and are thought to regulate transcription ofncertain genes by altering the chromatin structure around thosengenes. The protein encoded by this gene is a component of thenchromatin remodeling and spacing factor RSF, a facilitator of thentranscription of class II genes by RNA polymerase II. The encodednprotein is similar in sequence to the Drosophila ISWI chromatinnremodeling protein.
