6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase is the secondndehydrogenase in the pentose phosphate shunt. Deficiency of thisnenzyme is generally asymptomatic, and the inheritance of thisndisorder is autosomal dominant. Hemolysis results from combinedndeficiency of 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase andn6-phosphogluconolactonase suggesting a synergism of the twonenzymopathies.
