β-glucosidase catalyzes the hydrolysis of the glycosidic bonds to terminal non-reducing residues in beta-D-glucosides and oligosaccharides, with release of glucose. It is the key enzyme component present in cellulase and completes the final step during cellulose hydrolysis by converting the cellobiose to glucose.
