Human Kallikrein 5 (KLK5) is a serine protease produced in its inactive form. It is found in catalytically active form in stratum corneum. It has been reported to degrade desmosomes/corneodesmosomes, suggesting that it is involved in desquamtion. Egelrud et al. (2005) hK5 and hK7, two serine proteinases abundant in human skin, are inhibited by LEKTI domain 6. J Invest Dermatol, 124(1):198-203.Alternative names: stratum corneum tryptic enzyme, Kallikrein-like protein 2, KLK-L2
