The Toll-like receptor (TLR) family of proteins are characterized by a highly conserved Toll homology (TH) domain，which is essential for Toll-induced signal transduction. TLR9 has been sμggested as a receptor for unmethylated CpG dinucleotides in the bacterial DNA. TLR9 is highly expressed in the spleen.
