- This gene is one of several Cys-Cys (CC) cytokine genes clustered on the q arm of chromosome 16. Cytokines are a family of secreted proteins involved in immunoregulatory and inflammatory processes. The CC cytokines are proteins characterized by two adjacent cysteines. The cytokine encoded by this gene displays chemotactic activity for T lymphocytes, but not monocytes or granulocytes. The product of this gene binds to chemokine receptors CCR4 and CCR8. This chemokine plays important roles in T cell development in thymus as well as in trafficking and activation of mature T cells.Sample Type:Serum, plasma, tissue homogenatesIntended Use:For the quantitative determination of human thymus activation regulated chemokine (TARC) concentrations in serum, plasma, homogenates.Sensitivity:3.9pg/mlRange:15.6-1000pg/mlSpecificity:This assay has high sensitivity and excellent specificity for detection of human TARC. No significant cross-reactivity or interference between human TARC and analogues was observed.Test Principle:This BioAssay employs the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. Antibody specific for TARC has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any TARC present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for TARC is added to the wells. After washing, avidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of TARC bound in the initial step.
