- Lysozyme occurs in specific granules of human polymorphonuclear leukocytes and takes part in the antibacterial activity of the leukocytes. It hydrolyzes beta-1,4 links between N-acetylmuramic acid or 2- acetamido-2deoxy-D-glucose residues in mucopolysacchride, mucopolypeptide or chitin.Source:Lysozyme, from whole human bloodActivity:~30,000 sugar units/mg. Unit Definition:One unit is defined as the amount of enzyme that digest powdered cells of Micrococcus lysodeikticus, causing a decrease in absorbancy of 0.001/minute at 37oC , pH 7.0.Storage and Stability:May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
