Milbemycins are macrocyclic lactones, many of which are produced from the fermentation of soil bacterium S. hygroscopicus subsp. aureolacrimosus.{26993} They potentiate glutamate and GABA-gated chloride channel opening.{26993} Moxidectin is a second generation milbemycin with potent endectocide activity.{28583} It is commonly used as an anthelmintic drug in veterinary applications. Moxidectin differs from other macrocyclic lactones by being a poor substrate for P-glycoprotein.{28584}
