- Lorcaserin is a full agonist of serotonin 5-HT2C receptors (Ki = 15 and 29 nM for human and rat, respectively).{25376} In functional assays it demonstrates 18- and 104-fold selectivity over 5-HT2A and 5-HT2B receptors, respectively.{25376} Chronic daily treatment with lorcaserin (ED50 = 18 mg/kg, 6 hours post dosing) has been reported to reduce food intake and body weight gain in rodents fed a high fat diet.{25376,18222} Before approving it for use in the treatment of obesity, the FDA has classified lorcaserin as a Schedule IV controlled substance.{25375}
