Phosphatidylcholine-specific phospholipase C (PC-PLC) cleaves PC to generate diacylglycerol and phosphocholine. D609 is a xanthate that acts as a competitive inhibitor of PC-PLC (Ki = 6.4 µM).{26211} It does not affect bacterial phosphatidylinositol-specific PLC, bovine pancreatic PLA2, or phospholipase D.{26213} D609 also reduces sphingomyelin synthase activity, both in membrane preparations (IC50 = 100 µg/ml) and in cells.{26214} Like other xanthates, D609 has antioxidant, antiviral, and anti-tumor activities.{26213} In addition, it has anti-inflammatory actions, blocking the induction of nitric oxide synthase by LPS in phagocytes (IC50 = 20 µg/ml) and the expression of vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 by IL-1β in endothelial cells.{26212,3364}
