IL-8 是一种由 72-77 个氨基酸组成的多肽 （1），也称为 CXCL8、GCP-1 和 NAP-1。作为 CXC 趋化因子家族的一员，它可以采用单体或同源二聚体构象，其中包含排列成希腊键的三链反平行 β 折叠和长 C 端螺旋 （2）。IL-8 还可以形成具有 PF4 活性的异二聚体 （3）。IL-8 的受体是 CXCR1 和 CXCR2（4）。

IL-8 主要由巨噬细胞产生 （5）。它在人微血管内皮细胞中充当血管生成因子 （6）。IL-8 在炎症中的主要作用是中性粒细胞的募集 （7），尽管它也负责炎症部位单核细胞、淋巴细胞、嗜碱性粒细胞和嗜酸性粒细胞的趋化迁移和激活 （8）。
